The US also has hypersonic missile test beds but of course the problem
with hypersonic missiles is the guidance and target seeking function. A
hypersonic missile is going to be travelling in a cone of plasma which
pretty much rules out any radar or infrared seeker. They are likely
useful fot attacking static targets which is what the US Army and Navy
are mainly concerned with but a manoeuvering vessel over the horizon is
another problem entirely.

Russia deploys new Avangard nuclear boost-glide vehicle into 'combat duty'

On Wednesday, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation has
reported that a next hypersonic missile system outfitted with the Avangard
nuclear boost-glide vehicle has been put into service. ..

The Avangard is a strategic intercontinental ballistic missile system
equipped with a hypersonic boost-glide vehicle. .. The boost-glide vehicle
is capable of flying at over 20 times the speed of sound in the dense
layers of the atmosphere, maneuvering by its flight path and its altitude

First MC-21 Powered by Russian Engines Takes Flight

The first MC-21 narrowbody powered by Russian-made PD-14 engines flew
for the first time Tuesday morning from United Aircraft Corporation's
Irkut plant in the Siberian city of Irkutsk. ..

The MC-21 program already has flown four MC-21-300 prototypes equipped
with Pratt & Whitney PW1400G turbofans .. The PD-14-powered MC-21-310
emerged as a reaction to the threat of tightening economic sanctions
by the U.S. .. UAC has since offered the PD-14 to power China's Comac
C919 to address U.S. sanctions against that country. ..

innovative technology and materials.
