The US Navy had the world’s most powerful surface warships.
But it hung onto them too long
A sad exit for the wave-ruling Ticonderoga class
. . .
Great when they came out but age, poor maint and a
lack of upgrades leave the USA very weak when it
comes to this important class of naval vessels.
No roughly equivalent replacement is expected
anytime soon - if ever.
The UK also has a degrading navy.
A fair alternative may be 'drone carriers' - much
smaller ships loaded with drones and cruise missiles.
Large manned ships are ultra-expensive and big
targets in this day and age. Unmanned drone platforms,
remote/computer-controlled, can still pack firepower
and present a smaller target for an enemy. Being
cheap they can make a lot of them. For an enemy
it becomes like trying to fight off a hornet's
nest.
