Do military trucks and humvees have ignition keys, or is there some
other way to start them.

I can't see them having keys.

Too easy to lose in combat.

It depends on which ones your talking about but as for the hummers, they
have keys. If you in combat and driving your going to try to get out of the
kill box and if you have to dismount quickly your not worried about the keys
in the ignition. If they didn't require keys then anyone could jack
someone's ride. You can start them without the keys by shorting out the
ignition relay but you have to know where that is, how do to it, and be
brave enough to do it.

Hey BadBender,

Thanks for the response, BUT=A0-=A0=A0

I posted the same question in couple of groups.

Dan S, over at news:alt.discuss.support.military. disagrees=A0-=A0

He writes:

"No, military vehicles do not have keys, they have switches.

I have YET TO SEE any vehicle with keys.
It is easier in a combat situation to just turn a switch than struggle
finding the right key.

Even our Heavy Equipment uses switches.

In some cases they install master cut off switches to prevent the
battery from draining."

Well i hope that answers your question.

Where do we go from here?

I just can't see keys.

With many different personnel using equipment, it would seem so much
simpler to have some kind of a switch to start these vehicles.

I realize that "simpler" is not a word that the military always
understands!

Anybody know about the "Multi-Fuel Engines" the military uses in their
big rigs?

No Keys! NEVER!

Back in the rear area's like in the states they lock hatches with locks and
steering wheels with chains and locks to stop joy riding but when combat
starts the keys go to storage and the chains get stored under seats.

Everything has a master switch and a starter button!
